Calculation method

  1. 1Every measurement comes from one file that cites each platform's own documentation. Where a platform publishes exact pixels, those are used; where it publishes only an aspect ratio, the frame is derived from your image instead of inventing a size.
  2. 2Eleven checks run per image per placement: dimensions, aspect ratio, resolution, file size, format, transparency, colour profile, metadata, safe area, upscaling and crop risk. Each returns Ready, Fix recommended, Action required or Cannot verify.
  3. 3The preview and the exported file are drawn from the same geometry, so what you see is what downloads. Crop to fill, Fit with padding and Keep full image each change that geometry, along with zoom, position and focal point.
  4. 4Rendering runs in Web Workers on your device. Outputs are packed into a ZIP with a manifest listing what was produced.

Assumptions and limits

  • Previews are simulations drawn in SolveKit's own neutral frames. Platforms change their interfaces, cropping and compression, and no screenshot or logo is reproduced here.
  • Safe-area overlays are guides. SolveKit does not detect faces, text or subjects, so it cannot tell you whether the important part of your image sits inside them.
  • Colour profiles are not read, so the tool cannot confirm whether a file is sRGB.
  • Enlarging an image spreads existing pixels over a bigger frame. It never recovers detail the original did not capture.

Worked example

One 4000×3000 photo for Instagram

Input: A landscape photo with the square, 3:4 portrait, 1.91:1 landscape and Story formats selected.

Output: Four files in a ZIP plus a manifest. The square crop discards about 25% of the original area, which the crop-risk check reports before you export.

Frequently asked questions

What image size should I use for social media?

It depends on the platform and the placement, and several platforms publish a ratio rather than a pixel size. Load your image, pick a platform, and the tool shows the documented figures alongside what your file actually is — including where the platform publishes nothing at all.

Does this check my image or just resize it?

Both, and they are separate steps. The checks tell you what is wrong before anything is written: whether the ratio matches, whether the resolution clears a documented minimum, whether the file is too big, whether transparency would be lost. The fixer then applies the crop, padding, background and format you chose.

Which platforms does it support?

Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, X, Pinterest and Facebook, as internal modes of one application. Switching platform keeps your files, your framing and your previous results.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Decoding, cropping, encoding and the ZIP are all done in your browser. No image, file name or dimension is sent to any server, and the tool works the same with the network disconnected.

What is the difference between crop, fit and padding?

Crop to fill scales the image until it covers the frame and trims whatever overflows — nothing is distorted, but edges are lost. Fit with padding scales until the whole image is inside the frame and fills the remainder with a colour, a blurred copy or the dominant colour. Keep full image leaves the pixels alone and only re-encodes.

Why does it say some things cannot be verified?

Because claiming otherwise would be dishonest. Some platforms publish no minimum resolution or file size limit; SolveKit does not read embedded colour profiles; and a safe-area overlay is a guide, not a detector — it cannot know what matters in your image.
