Calculation method
- 1The file container is parsed at byte level: JPEG APP segments, PNG chunks, or WebP RIFF chunks that carry EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, or comments are removed.
- 2Pixels are never decoded or re-encoded — the image data is copied verbatim, so quality is untouched and the operation is lossless.
- 3Before download, the tool lists what it found per file: camera, capture date, GPS presence, and how many metadata bytes were removed.
Assumptions and limits
- Color profiles (ICC) are kept so the image continues to render with correct colors.
- Formats other than JPEG, PNG, and WebP are skipped rather than risk a lossy rewrite.
- If a photo was already edited by an app that baked location into the pixels (visible stamps), no metadata tool can remove that.
