Transparent methodology
What the result includes—and what it does not
Built for etsy sellers checking what one order actually leaves them after Etsy's fees and their own costs.
Calculation method
- 1Fee-bearing revenue is the item price plus the shipping you charge the buyer. Tax collected is never counted as your revenue.
- 2Transaction fee = fee-bearing revenue × the transaction rate you enter, which defaults to Etsy's published 6.5%.
- 3Payment processing = (fee-bearing revenue + any tax you enter) × the processing rate, plus the fixed payment amount; the listing fee and anything in the ads and other fees field are added to reach total platform fees.
- 4Estimated profit = fee-bearing revenue − total platform fees − the product and fulfilment costs you enter. Net sales after fees is the same subtraction without your costs.
Assumptions and limits
- The defaults are Etsy's published US figures, read from Etsy's Fees & Payments Policy on 27 July 2026: 6.5% transaction, 3% + $0.25 Etsy Payments processing, $0.20 per listing. Etsy can change them at any time, which is why every rate field here is editable.
- Payment processing differs by the country of your bank account — Etsy's policy lists 4% + £0.20 for the UK, for example — so replace the rate and the fixed amount with the ones for your market before trusting the profit line.
- The listing fee field charges one listing to this sale. Etsy charges it whether or not the item sells, and a listing expires after four months, so a slow-moving item can carry the fee more than once.
- Offsite Ads, your Etsy Ads budget, the regulatory operating fee, shop set-up fees, currency conversion, VAT charged on seller fees, refunds and income tax are not calculated. They only affect the result if you type them into the ads, regulatory and other fees field.
Worked example
$50 item with $5 buyer-paid shipping
Input: $50 item price, $5 shipping charged, no tax entered, $20 of product and shipping cost, 6.5% transaction fee, 3% payment processing, $0.25 fixed payment fee, $0.20 listing fee, no other fees.
Output: Estimated platform fees $5.68, estimated profit $29.33, and net sales after entered fees $49.33.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Etsy take from a $50 sale?
On a $50 item with $5 of buyer-paid shipping and the US defaults, Etsy's fees come to $5.68: $3.58 transaction fee, $1.90 payment processing, and the $0.20 listing fee. That leaves $49.33 in net sales before your own product and shipping costs.
Are these the current Etsy fees?
The defaults were read from Etsy's Fees & Payments Policy on 27 July 2026 and are the US figures: 6.5% transaction, 3% + $0.25 processing, $0.20 per listing. Etsy publishes the live schedule on that policy page, so check it there and overwrite any rate field that has changed — the calculator never assumes a rate you cannot edit.
Does the 6.5% transaction fee apply to shipping?
Yes. Etsy applies the transaction fee to the item price plus the shipping and gift wrapping you charge for, which is why the calculator adds shipping to the fee base rather than treating it as pass-through.
Is sales tax included in Etsy's fees?
For US sellers the transaction fee is not charged on sales tax, but payment processing is. Enter tax in the tax field and the tool adds it to the processing base only; it is never counted as your revenue.
Why is my real Etsy payout lower than this estimate?
The most common gaps are Offsite Ads, an Etsy Ads budget, currency conversion, VAT charged on seller fees, and refunds — none of which this tool calculates. Etsy's policy states the Offsite Ads fee as 15% of an attributed order, or 12% for shops that made $10,000 or more in the previous 365 days; add whatever applies in the ads and other fees field.
Do I still pay the $0.20 listing fee if the item does not sell?
Yes. Etsy charges the listing fee per listing whether or not it sells, and a listing expires after four months. Set the field to $0 if you only want to see the fees tied to a completed order.
