Transparent methodology
What the result includes—and what it does not
Built for uS eBay sellers who want the final value fee, the per-order fee and the profit left on a single sale before they list it.
Calculation method
- 1Seller revenue is the item price plus the shipping you charge the buyer. Tax collected is never counted as revenue; it only feeds the fee base if you enter it.
- 2The fee base is item price + shipping charged + any tax entered, matching eBay's definition of the total amount of the sale.
- 3The final value fee is tiered: the main rate on the fee base up to the threshold, plus the reduced rate on the portion above it. A threshold of 0 applies one flat rate to the whole base.
- 4Estimated fees = tiered percentage fee + per-order fee + anything entered as promoted-listing or other fees. Estimated profit = revenue − estimated fees − your entered costs, and profit margin is that profit divided by revenue.
Assumptions and limits
- The defaults are eBay's published US structure for a seller without a Store subscription, read on 27 July 2026: 13.6% up to $7,500 per item and 2.35% above. Books, Movies & TV and Music are higher — replace the rate with your category's.
- The per-order fee is a single editable amount, pre-filled at $0.40. eBay publishes $0.30 for orders of $10.00 or less and $0.40 above, so change the field yourself on a low-value sale — the calculator does not switch between them.
- The reduced tier is applied to the whole fee base as a single item. eBay calculates the $7,500 threshold per item, so a multi-quantity order splits differently than this tool shows.
- Insertion fees past your free monthly listings, Store subscription, Promoted Listings, international and currency-conversion fees, dispute fees and refunds are not calculated — they only appear if you type them into the other-fees field.
- The output is an estimate, not an eBay invoice: it reflects the rates you enter, not the rates on your account at the time of sale, and it does not calculate income tax.
Worked example
$100 item with $8 buyer-paid shipping
Input: $100 sale price, $8 shipping charged to the buyer, no entered tax, $45 of seller costs, 13.6% final value fee, $7,500 threshold with 2.35% above it, and a $0.40 per-order fee.
Output: Estimated fees: $15.09. Estimated profit: $47.91. Profit margin: 44.36%.

Frequently asked questions
What is an eBay final value fee, and is FVF the same thing?
FVF is seller shorthand for the final value fee — the percentage eBay charges once your item sells. eBay calculates it on the total amount of the sale, so shipping you charge the buyer and sales tax form part of the base, not the item price alone, and a fixed per-order amount is added on top.
How much are eBay fees on a $100 sale?
On the defaults here, a $100 item with $8 of buyer-paid shipping gives a $108 fee base: 13.6% of that is $14.69, plus the $0.40 per-order fee, for $15.09 in total. Change the percentage first if your category or account is charged a different rate.
Is this eBay fee calculator free?
Yes — no signup, no account and no paywall. The calculation runs in your browser, so you can change a rate and read the new figure immediately.
What happens on sales over $7,500?
eBay charges the main rate up to a per-item threshold and a lower rate on the portion above it — 13.6% then 2.35% on its published US structure for most categories. Both the threshold and the reduced rate are editable, and setting the threshold to 0 applies one flat rate to the whole sale.
Does this include eBay listing fees?
Not automatically, because they depend on your account. eBay gives sellers without a Store 250 free listings each month and charges $0.35 per listing in most categories after that, so add the amount to the other-fees field if this listing is past your allowance.
Why is my actual eBay invoice higher than the estimate?
The usual causes are a category rate above the default, Promoted Listings, an international sale, insertion fees past your free listings, or a Store subscription. None of those are calculated here — enter the per-sale ones in the promoted-listing and other fees field to fold them in.
